by the river ganga i sat and ate chapatis

so. life took the travelling finn girl back to loud and dirty kolkata and back to the pure heart in kalighat. laundry and dishes and old ladies were the same same, but different.

rishikesh oh hippie rishikesh. at ashram many girls and boys, women and men looking for enlightement. some had found piece of it. but the ganga was great...and the himalayas. many kilos of mangoes, fresh watermelon...chats and chai. and chapati-baba by the river. youngish sadhu man who made the best chapati (and many other things starting with c) on the fire in front of his hut (by the river). kind eyes, always friendly and welcoming. girls and boys sitting with him days and nights, talking and chanting and meditating. by the river ganga everything is possible.

watching sunset. by the river ganga. many people gathering and suddenly old man starting to speak after some hindi songs. time stops and everything gets quiet, almost. somewhere far away someone is getting married but no one on this beach is noticing it. babas and ordinary people sitting on the sand and stones next to each other facinated about the speach. and when you leave yu feel total peace in side.

many things to do...yoga, lectures, movies about tibetiean yogis, meditation. you could spend months here and have something spiritual to do. and many many others trying to find their paths. sharing with them would be eyes opening. but well...too little time. my time will come. am sure.

kolkata feels home. when getting out from the train (only 35 hrs) it felt home right away. all the taxis people, dogs and goats. big houses, horns singing....oh sweet kolkata how could i forget you. same old modern lodge guet house with fighting old men downstairs (with big smiles when you walked back in)...same dinner in khalsa restaurant (chapati, rice, dahl)....chai with the kids and mango lassi on the corner. life has gone back to normal.
